Coding Specialist/ Full-time Days
Position: Coding Specialist
Location: Columbus, NC

St. Luke’s Hospital has a new opportunity for an experienced Coding Specialist! Our hospital is one of very few critical access hospitals in the country that earned 5-Stars in patient satisfaction from CMS in 2020 and we need YOU to help us get to the next level! In this role, you will be part of a progressive team dedicated to advancing the goals of the hospital, meeting the needs of our rural community, and providing outstanding care to our patients. Essential Functions:
Performs coding assignment for Inpatient, Emergency Department, and Outpatient records as required for compliance with federal regulations according to diagnoses, operations, and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT-4 classification system, utilizing current computer programs utilized hospital-wide.

Required Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Prefer an Associate Degree in Medical Records (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), with two years of prior coding experience and extensive knowledge of optimization techniques and DRG’s. Nonaccredited individual with at least 5 years of coding experience and demonstrated ability may be substituted.

Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, encoding software and DRG optimization. ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding experience. Typing skills and word processing experience are necessary. Must possess ability to make independent, responsible decisions while upholding policies and procedures. Requires effective actions in communicating and dealing with public and internal clients. Skills to communicate orally, and in writing, in a clear and concise manner with physicians, administration, staff, and public.
